In the past we had collaborated on a few projects with Nike and the organization Changemakers, which run competitions around open innovation. Nike came to us with an idea of expanding one of their Changemaker’s competitions beyond just the existing site.
From a design perspective, it was a challenge to create an experience that allowed ten entries to be browsed and navigated, and then allow a user to vote. From a technical perspective, the challenge was to allow users from Nike’s database or Changemaker’s database to vote only once. By launch we were able to solve both challenges and stood by as users filed into a large widget, a smaller embeddable widget, and a facebook application to vote for their favorite Gamechanger.
After the vote completed, we changed the layouts of each manifestation of the app to announce the winners. Both Nike and Changemakers were pleased with the outcome and our next steps are to open source the code base so the Changemakers team can use it for future competitions. We’re very excited at the prospects.
