We The Media Web Project

Carmax came to us in 2007 to help flesh out a few concepts for their soon-to-be site relaunch. Up until they came to us, they’d worked with several larger agencies who had seemed to miss the mark; what Carmax really wanted was a simple but comprehensive portal for users to quickly jump to the content they wanted to get to most: cars.

We worked with Carmax on a solution that put relevant information front and center, offering up search criteria and filtering options on the homepage rather than putting the content that most users were looking for behind additional, unnecessary organizational pages. From our homepage mockup a user is immediately able to choose a vehicle make, and any other criteria—type, price or mileage—is readily available.

At the time, Carmax was in the process of hiring an in-house design team and needed these concepts delivered quickly in order to help get their designers started on the right foot. We delivered two different mockups in Photoshop and coded them in HTML, CSS & JavaScript before sending them off, and Carmax went on to use our work as a base for their newly hired design group to begin from.
